英国人科学者のスーザンは、ある日突然、嗅覚を失うという症例を示す患者と出会う。それは国内に限らず、ヨーロッパから世界中へと広がり、人々はパニックに陥る。そんなある日、彼女は自宅の向かいのレストランで働くシェフ、マイケルと出会うが、2人も翌朝には完全に嗅覚を失ってしまう。彼らはさらに味覚、聴覚を失うように。
