Boston'da yaşanan şiddetli bir patlama, şehrin tecrübeli bomba ekibini bile hayret içerisinde bırakır. İpuçları, bombanın o ana kadar bilinen en yetenekli bomba hazırlayıcılardan daha tehlikeli ve kimsenin tanımadığı biri tarafından hazırlandığını işaret etmektedir... Fakat birim şefi Jimmy Dove'un bu kişinin kim olabileceği üzerine bir tahmini vardır. Dove geçmişte kaldığını düşündüğü ölümcül düşmanı tekrar karşısına çıkınca, hem kişisel hem de mecburi bir araştırmaya başlar. Ve Jeff Bridges ve Tommy Lee Jones bu gerilim dolu macerada git gide patlamalarla dolu bir karşılaşma ve finale doğru hızla ilerlerler.
